Gooner Talk: Appiah Returns To Fitness As Arsenal Speculation Hots Up

  • RP7 · 1 year ago
Come on Arsene, you know it makes sense!!!
  • adebayour's accountant · 1 year ago
I watched the game...appiah came on...he didnt look rusty at all.
He played some really good passes which were not converted. he was sharp and in sync with the game...but obviously lacks match practice so he was not on his top top best...lets just say, currently, he can last just as long as denilson
  • stav · 1 year ago
Comon guys, I know we all want to sign a powerful midfielder, to balance the team, but I think we need to trust AW's judgement, if his long term fitness is in doubt, theres no point paying someone 35k a week to go to the physio and then out shopping. I hope is fit, because he was a quality player
  • London Gun · 1 year ago
Anyone who slags off Appiah or dismisses him as second rate, obviously has not seen him play, he couldn't be more suited to our requirements, he is a strong box to box player who is rated by his own countrymen in higher regard than Essien....If he is over the worst injury wise. He absolutely sh*ts on Flamini and could offer the benefit of his experience developing the youth at the club who vy for the CM position.
Does anyone remember the Overmars signing and his physical state when signing on the dotted line. I am sure that everyone will be cheering Eduardo on the minute he returns after his long injury spell, not to mention Diaby who has also had his fairshare on the sidelines the past few seasons following ops...Wenger is no fool, if he is fit enough he will be signed in my opinion, I was shocked that he was not signed before the close of the transfer window, now that he is practically the only one available it must be a foregone conclusion.

I am a Ghanaian and an Arsenal supporter since 1987 and all I can say is majority of ghanaians rate Appiah over Essien. Appiah played as a striker when he played for Hearts of oak he only converted to midfield when he started playing abroad. The guy is quality compared Flaminis, Diaby, Denilson, even Gilberto in his prime. He will be the missing piece at Arsenal.
  • Mr Arsenal · 1 year ago
I have thought Appiah would be an ideal signing for us for years now, and would be a good addtional to our starting 11 not just to our squad.

I think his experience would be vital for the young players and lets face it Diaby, Denilson and Co can't string together consist performance to convince us fans they are the answer in midfield. Presence is a big thing and we lack an authoritive figure in the middle of the park and Appiah would be perfect, and even better he wouldn't cost a penny!
  • Me · 1 year ago
sign this mother fucker up now arsene. this is the man we all want so just do it.

we will all be alot appiah when it happens. hehehehe ROFL
  • Greek gooner · 1 year ago
    HAHAHAHAHA!!
    JUST BRILLIANT MATE!!
    LOOOOOOOOOOL!
  • Craig · 1 year ago
Corny as hell, but that was funny.
  • phil · 1 year ago
Wenger will look at the 40k pound per week demand and say no. We will be stuck with a light weight (Denilson), a make-shift (Eboue) and a raw DM (Ramsay).
  • Gunner Jillu · 1 year ago
First it ws Yaya, then there was talk of Barry, then Alonso, then Inler. Arsenal fans were begging Wenger to sign one of these players, now we are going for a free agent who no one else apart from West ham wants, and now Arsenal fans want him. Who's next Boateng!!??
  • Idiot Spotter · 1 year ago
You are such an idiot jamie boy, Appiah is a great player and will fit right in. If you cant see he is the answer to our partner for Fabregas with Diaby and co all then in depth, then you ought not be looking at this blog because you are obvioiusly a succeurr fan and not a football fan - same goes for any of you who can't see what a brilliiant Wenger stroke of genius this would be outside the transfer window. It wouldnt surprise me if this was Wenger's plan all along. I mean he HAS remained so stlent on the 'no signing' of transfer deadline day, ha he not?1
  • Tonygooner · 1 year ago
fair point. i agree with you that appiah could be a fantastic signing. i watched a video on youtube today of wengers achievements for arsenal. brought a tear to my eye. henry, pires, such beautiful memories. trust the man who made us a superclub for all the doubters out there
  • james · 1 year ago
wenger needs to sign him i would rather Appiah than Alonso any day of the week
the guy is just another Essien with a bit more extra quality. He is very strong and powerful and that is what we need in the centre of midfield. he has also got a bag full of experience as well as being a good captain for the Ghanaian national team i honestly think he is the best option out of all the midfielders we have been link with.
  • james · 1 year ago
Wenger really needs to make this happen
  • SFGooner · 1 year ago
Wikipedia claiming we've offered him 3 years. Which one of you put that in there? ;-) Hope we sign him!
  • Momo · 1 year ago
the african cup of nations is every 2 years. so he will be availble in january.
  • ?? · 1 year ago
i saw him walking during the match !!
  • Idiot Spotter · 1 year ago
...O look, another idiot! Walking, so what you mug! What's he supposed to do, handstands? cartwheels? or play with his hoop and stick? Stevie Williams used to love a stroll about between decisive actions. Petit also did this..... Erm, I've only been supporting Arsenal since they became fashionable, who's Stevie Williams? Ask ya dad little boy and save your handstands and cartwheels for the playground (or the disco)! Plum!
  • FAmily Enclosure MAn · 1 year ago
Everyone here is getting excited, but what did he actually look like tonight? Did he play well? Somebody said he was walking - that could mean something and nothing. Did he look like a reasonable stand in for Essien? (and what's the made with HIM that made come off after only 22 mins - crocked?)
  • Idiot Spotter · 1 year ago
...Yet another false, know nothing succeurr not football ssupporter. Listen the guy in the blog above you has the idea dumb ass!
  • james · 1 year ago
fucking hell man give the guy a chance he has just come back from injury
  • FAmily Enclosure MAn · 1 year ago
Yeah, but I ask again to anyone who actually saw the match, HOW DID HE LOOK? I'm not asking him to have been brilliant (yet), but did he look like he can still play the game or was he obviously struggling? I accept it might not have been clear from one match, but there is a real desperation among a lot of AFC fans to just sign somebody for the sake of it at the moment. I've seen Appiah in the past and he looked OK, but there's no point in signing him simply becuase we can't find anyone else.
  • Opera · 1 year ago
"Ghana received their first blow on 22 minutes when Michael Essien limped out of the match due to a knee injury. He was replaced with team captain Stephen Appiah." - Goal.com

mate...appiah is fit enough to play in PL with AFC. hope arsene will sign him
  • Ricky · 1 year ago
Just like essien with a bit more quality?? LOOOOL!! I agree with most things you say james but your we'll wrong there mate.

If he were that good he would have been snapped up along time ago..
  • Mr. T · 1 year ago
You've clearly never seen Appiah play then. He's much better than Essien!
  • james · 1 year ago
well he is a free and what would we be loosing out on if we do sign him. he can bring saw much expeiance to the team in my opinion he would be a great signing do one better make him captain
  • Hans iZaL · 1 year ago
    plz sign him, AW...please...
  • bergkamp13 · 1 year ago
He carries the same risks as Bischoff with a bit more salary. His health is the main issue as I've read Fenerbache really fucked up his knee ops.
  • james · 1 year ago
Ricky Wenger has wanted to sign Appiah for several years he was close to joining us last season but injury stopped him from completing the move. As for comparing him with Essien i take it u haven't seen Appiah a hundred percent fit the guy is quality he has got saw much to his game i would regard him as a complete midfielder. there are not many players in Europe that can strike a ball better than Appiah u ask any Ghanaian who is the best player in the national team believe the majority of them will say Appiah Essien has not got nothing on him if u think he has u tell me like i said he has definitely got more quality to his game more than Essien does
  • daymee · 1 year ago
Now this guy has played. I don't know how fit he is but I believe his worst is behind him. He needs a club like Arsenal to get back all he lost during the last year when he could have died due to medical negligence.
I believe Wenger is the master of assessments of players and he will be able to decide if Appiah is worth a deal. I think Wenger will take this guy. He would normally have come out to say he is not interested. I 'm sure Wenger is on his case and it is now a matter of agreeing personal terms. 45K a week 3yr contract will do it, considering the CL oppourtunity as well
  • Me · 1 year ago
should have got appiah instead of that stupid amaury bitchslap. waste of space he is becoz hes always injured. im sure he will be fine alongside rvp and rosicky on the treatment tables. lololol
  • Pastime · 1 year ago
Personally I'm pretty tired of these stupid rumors.
If we sign Appiah fine, if not who cares.
  • lettraggad · 1 year ago
I agree with the statements that Appiah is regarded higher than Essien in the national team , Ive seen alot of this guys and Ive always felt Appiah was the superior player.. but in the last two to three years clubfootball I'd argue that Essien is the best in the world in that particular position. But in the national team guys like Sulley traore and Essien dont come close to Appiahs standard. Arsenal could really do with a player of his stature, people hype guys like mascherano , alonso but Appiah is way better and has played on that level for ages. It took a a blossoming Nedved to keep appiah out of the juve side and in gazetta del sports his performances have always rated top5 in Juves team . If hes not injured I say get him, and we will have improved our team from last year. Unfortunately I think the romours are nothing but romours Arsene has had the chance before and opted for other players.

It will be great to have him in our squad. I have watched him play and I can see he will do a good job for us with Fabrepass.

I am thinking now because we did not buy anyone before the deadline, even a donkey in jersey will do. The question I'll put to you gunners is this, out of all the MFs we were linked to before the transfer deadline would Appiah have made the top 5? I bet you the answer is NO!! So why fall over each other for someone who was RELEASED by a 2nd rate club like Fernebache? Anything at the mo will do, I hear you say! Man stop this nonsense, wait until the January tranfer deadline and get in a proper player. If Arsene wanted him he could have long been an Arsenal player as he came out and declared he wanted and even dreamt of joining us. Now at 27 I am sure he'll be looking for a 4 year contract which teams like westHam or Sunderland are prepared to give him but I am not sure if Arsene would. If he does get him in then so be it as Arsene as we all say knows!!
  • GunnerDaz · 1 year ago
    Are you bloody retarded?!?!

    1. Fenerbache are NOT a 2nd rate team, they reached the 1/4s of the CL, LIKE US and beat Chelsea at home. I hope you pay respect to the Turks when we play them away this year

    2. Appiah's operation on his knee was botched, he developed blood clots and Fener's docs thought it was asthma. It could've killed Appiah. THATS WHY APPIAH WANTED TO LEAVE, NOT BECAUSE HE WAS SHIT FOR FENERBACHE

    3. He is Ghana captain and gets in ahead of essien... he must be good and we do need captain material instead of Gallas
  • Brett182 · 1 year ago
    hes free for fuck sake!
wer reluctant to give him 35 thousand grand a week :S
    wtf
jus go an buy him wenger!
we need the experience alongside fab
  • james · 1 year ago
i think Wenger could make Appiah world class again
  • Reese · 1 year ago
does anyone have any solid information or sources or is this all just speculation?!?!
  • bushey gooner · 1 year ago
i don't understand why wenger would hesitate to give him £35,000 a week, the money he would be saving from not paying a transfer fee would allow Appiah to have a weekly wage around that price. The same thing happened when campbell signed allowing him to have a contract of £90,000 a week, and that was before we had our great 'war chest' of cash, so surely the wages arent an issue
  • online wenger · 1 year ago
    sign appiah is great idea..
  • Ricky · 1 year ago
I still cant agree with you about appiah james pal, Yes i belive he will be a valuable addition to the squad & will be good in the middle & i have seen him play on a number of occasions as my old man is a fenerbache fan & always watched him play with them & with the ghanaian team & he is a really good player but to say he has more quality then essien is a bit far fetched as essien is a more versitile player & can always get goals.

I still think we should go & sign him though, not because he's free but because he is the type of player we need atm.
  • Stu · 1 year ago
It seems that AW is happy with his squad. But considering that he "tried" to sign players maybe he might go for him. Hopefully. Appiah is a born leader. Even after being out of his national side for a year he is given the armband on his return. Ghana are considered one of the better african teams and for him t get the nod ahead of Essien says alot.
  • fello · 1 year ago
I dont seem to believe in wenger any more, does he have any other hidden agenda?not signing a player or two before signifies that he has a deal in all his signings, which stands at make no money out of a player straight to his pocket or no signing. Wenger, dont kill the joy of this game!
  • fatastic · 1 year ago
i disagree with you Ricky. Appiah can definitely get goals, just look at his records. He's averaging a goal every 5 to 6 games which is just about the same as what Essien averages. I certainly think he's much needed alongside Cesc, i think he can do a job not too far off what Senna is doing for Spain and Villareal. Will Wenger be too blind to see that he's the least he should get?
  • Marko · 1 year ago
Would be an alright addition. I think if he could prove his fitness why not take him? 2 or 3 years ago when we were interested in him he was quality, a real fighter and given the fact that he's free and his wages wouldn't be too bad then I can only see his signing as a win win. When Hleb, Flamini, Gilberto and Lehmann left we replace them with in my opinion Nasri, Fabianski and I'm assuming Diaby for Flamini. Gilberto last season was an experienced squad mamber who we could bring on to help out the youngsters when injured or when we're "backs against the wall". Now that bert is gone we don't have that. Appiah could be that guy now.
